Listening to some students gripe today about how our school is blocking Netflix, Facebook and several streaming music apps I couldn’t help thinking that they seem to have a consumer mind set rather than a student one. As if rather than an institution of learning, we’ve somehow morphed into just a free internet provider for their personal entertainnment.
It occurred to me that we have to remind students about the internet and chomebooks the same thing that as an Art teacher I’ve had to remind them about other tools like rulers, brushes and exacto knives-
“It’s a tool, not a toy or a weapon.”
If only their parents would adopt this mantra about their phones.
